Eid Al Adha Special

As we enjoy an interim with the festival of Eid Al Adha, glittercut.com sheds light on its significance and reasoning.

To begin with, we would like to restate the fact that Eid Al Adha is a preeminent festival than the Eid Al Fitr (Ramadan Eid) for Muslims all over.

Eid Al Adha (Bakra Eid) is more auspicious and celebrated as it is also the time of Hajj. Hajj is a pilgrimage comprising of visiting the house of Allah SWT in the city of Makkah and performing various customary rituals.

In the 5 – 6 day Hajj, the last day is devoted to the very famous Sacrament of slaughtering an animal.

This act has been opposed quite a lot without understanding its true essence.

A quick overview on the same is as follows:

  1. It is an enactment of the sacrifice made by the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) as an offering to the Lord.
  2. The slaughter has the following criteria to fulfil:
  •  One year in age for sheep and goats
  • Two years in age for cows and buffalo
  • Five years in age for camels

Qurbani animals for sacrifice can be either male or female. (To read more, click here)

  1. Only if you are earning and are willing to offer a sacrifice in the love of your Lord, then you may. It is not a compulsory act.
  2. Every sacrificed animal is to be divided into three equal parts. One portion is for distribution within immediate relatives, the second portion is for the poor and the needy. And, the third portion is for ourselves.

The above allotment has a beautiful reason behind it.

Eid Al Adha, Bakra Eid, Bakri Eid, Hajj, Pilgrimage, Sharing food, poor, blog post on eid

Often in our immediate family, people are suffering from various financial and monetary crunches. And due to self-respect and other reasons, they suffer in silence. So, sharing the meat with them keeps their self-respect intact while strengthening the family bond while the suffering family gets a happy meal with a joyous festive.

Poverty has become an inevitable part of the economy. Hence, to help the destitute, one portion is allotted for them.

As we have the third portion of ourselves, it is to instil a sense of responsibility and evenhandedness. Injecting a sense of equality and humility and not getting a sense of pride at all.

Fun Fact, It is advised to pet the sacrificial animal as long as one can. It helps the owner to get attached to the beast. It adds to its profound value, as the owner offers an animal to which he is attached. Even if not, it will not diminish the essence of the sacrifice.

The sacrifice is required to be carried out using the halal technique. This technique is famously used by Muslims globally. It is a way of slaughtering the animals contradicting the Stunning Method (which is more painful and leaves a notable amount of blood in the body).

Halal meat, widely consumed by Muslims, is the unique way they slaughter their animals. The gripping science behind the intrigue slaughter technique is fascinating. Halal slaughter involves one pass of the sharp blade across the throat of the animal, severing the carotid arteries, jugular vein and trachea. Letting the animal lose consciousness swiftly while the heart pumps all the blood out. It is a scientifically proven method to be less painful and tenderising the meat further for consumption without any traces of blood. (To read more about halal slaughter, click here.)

Do try dining at a halal restaurant and feel the difference yourself.

WE ARE BORN EMPOWERED!!

Since 1848, appeals for women rights have stormed the globe.

The first rally at Seneca Falls, New York, was the formal commencement of the movement for women rights.

However, over time, around 1960, claims to women rights began to take a twist and branched out into Feminism and Women Empowerment.

Feminism, as we all have heard more of it than the latter, is the belief and advocacy of social, political and economical equal rights of women. Feminism in its original form is just all about equal rights and equal opportunities.

Since feminism is a concept that can barely deliver the desired outcomes for several instances, I will not be investing much of my time speaking about feminism.

In a nutshell, it is all about equal rights, positions, responsibilities, stature along with standings and opportunities as men. However, in my opinion, it is nearly impossible as nothing about women is as same as men. The constitution of women’s creation is poles apart. Except for being humans, no other aspect about a female equals that of a man. Emotional composition, physical composition, interests, needs, necessities and more do not go hand in hand for a man and woman.

Being this said, I will move on to the other branchlet of women rights.

Women empowerment.

Women empowerment is described as accepting women’s viewpoints or making an effort to seek them, raising the status of women through education, awareness, literacy, and training.

In my opinion, women are born empowered. All they require is the right mindset, perception, upbringing, exposure, education, support and strength.

It brings to my mind the classic example of Prophet Mohammad (SAW). Ranked as no.1 in the topmost 100 influential men by Micheal Hart. Who had it all sorted out for the women of the world 1400 years ago. His law entitled women to everything that women rights’ reformers are still struggling to gain. We already enjoy the privileges like, right to vote, inheritance, property ownership, education, knowledge, career. And, most important, self-love and respect.

However, all over the globe, women are being compromised of their rights and basic needs. Sometimes, in the name of culture, race, caste or society or merely to suppress her.

Moreover, with increasing awareness of women empowerment and women rights becoming widespread, it has evolved in various forms.

A form for resolving and creating awareness about comprehensive issues like equal pay, women in a leadership role, women work-life balance, etc.

And, the majority are committed to raising appeals, awareness and eliminating the burning issues. Issues such as rape, dowry, domestic violence, abuse, harassment, acid attacks and many more are still making it top to the headlines of every newspaper, be in whichever country you are. It is atrocious for women in this era to be exploited even in the 21st Century.

women alone can change the world. women empowerment, feminism, women rights, women in man's world, women fundamentals, Islam way of life. women empowering religion

So, how can a woman be empowered without even being treated like one?

She can’t be privileged while being objectified and degraded in ways beyond imagination.

I will highlight a few headline snippets of such tragedies from all over the world.

They read as follows:

News 1, India: Girl commits suicide in dowry case

News 2, India: Girl Murdered in dowry case

News 3, London: A teenage girl, 13, and a woman, 63, acid attacked.

News 4, UAE: Pandemic leads to more domestic violence cases.

And, the list is never-ending

With all these crimes and offences, women empowerment is a far-fetched dream which can only fall in line once they have access to fundamental rights and freedom.

And these issues can only be tackled when dealt with at the grassroots.

For you to take away.

A woman is a unique creation who has the privilege of carrying a generation within her.

There will be no need for movements like women empowerment or feminism if our boys are raised right and taught to respect the opposite sex. While ensuring our girls are bought up strong, aware of their rights, educated and self-respecting.

To tolerate injustice and inequity is a crime.

Thank you.

Breathing space!!

The Covid-19 came as a bane to mankind, but, when it comes to the environment, Covid-19 has proven itself to be a boon.

Due to the lock down, Beijing was able to witness clear skies as factory cease operations, motorists halt, etc. Hence, rejuvenating the environment and reviving the air.

The drastic difference in the skies of Beijing, China, due to the lock down.

The lockdown blessed the city of Venice, with clear waters, swimming swans and visible fishes having a gala time in the lakes of the city.

Mumbai, the tinsel town of India, also adds to the beneficiary list of the benefits, as the lockdown has vacated its very famous tourist spots such as the Juhu Beach, hence, giving it some open and pollution-free air.

Moreover, Covid-19 leaves the tourism industry all over the world tarnished for a noticeable period now.

Again, giving the sought after places a breathing space to revive and rejuvenate.

The Earth needed this break. The awareness of the necessary break has been passing on through various channels.

Some times, it was through observing Earth Day on April 22 of every year, or it was reinforcing the World Water Day on March 22 every year.

Moreover, there is a ‘Bike-to-Work’ day observed on every third Friday of May.

The list does not end there, 21 Sept is long announced as the ‘Zero Emission Day’.

Anyhow, the list goes on, to literally, including every single day of the year to make Earth greener and save its resources from being depleted. Without any noticeable change.

One day out of 365 days isn’t of much help, so, the lockdown on all sectors and activities have proven to be very advantageous for the environment.

All said and done. What about after the lock down is over?

As China already releases a statement stating, after overcoming the plague, it will only focus on its economic recovery.

Taking us back to ‘square one’, maybe even into negative square one (-1).

To recover the losses and fall in the economy, it will have to speed up its processes, productions and trades.

Does that mean it will double the negative effect on the environment as the factories might end up working overtime and emissions of carbons in the air will multiply?

The tourism industry will leap, yet again bringing the environment at the edge of the cliff.

This has to be taken as a wake-up call by every single soul. We must do our part in building the environment, pollution-free and greener than ever.

So, our homework is to practice these popular steps daily in which we can fulfill our responsibility towards the mother nature.

  • Not only saying ‘No’, but, also ensuring others to say ‘NO’ to plastic.
  • Not littering our vicinity and not allowing others to do the same.
  • Tag a friend along and plant as many trees.

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

If the Hour (the Day of Resurrection) is about to be established and one of you was holding a palm shoot, let him take advantage of even one second before the Hour is established to plant it.” (Authenticated by Al-Albani)

  • Save water, save electricity.

Anas also reported that the Prophet said,

“If a Muslim plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, or a person or an animal eats from it, it is regarded as a charitable gift (sadaqah) for him.” (Bukhari)

  • Use products which can be reused, recycled or degradable.
  • ‘Go Green’ by minimizing the consumption of paper. Unnecessary printing or paperwork should always be avoided.
  • Walk or let your bike take you to work twice a week. Hence, making less use of your car and cutting down on fuel consumption.

You can think of any other way to go green or save the environment or did I miss out on any, do let us know in the comment.

Hope, the officials do not get selfish in recovering from the losses and once again put the environment backstage leaving it to suffer the consequences.

We wish you a safe and greener, corona-free environment.

Do let us know, About your viewpoint on ‘after-the-lockdown’.

Do you think this has given enough wake-up call to the authorities or things might just return to as they were? Why?
